Raul of Real Madrid Pondering Schalke Move

Earlier, it was revealed that Manchester United would be Raul’s possible destination next season as the 33-year-old former Spain international is now looking to move away from Real Madrid for the first time in his career.

Raul, who spent his whole career at Real Madrid, lost his place in the Real Madrid first eleven following the last summer arrival of Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. So, the Real Madrid captain now wants a move seeking more first team football.

It is also believed that Real Madrid is also interested to let him go, even though his current contract with the club has not been finished yet.

Now, reports out in the media suggest that Raul is planning to join German club FC Schalke 04 this summer. Christoph Metzelder, the Schalke midfielder and Raul’s former teammate at Real Madrid, has recently revealed that Raul is keen to join Schalke as he wants to continue playing in Champions League.

In an interview with Bild newspaper, Metzelder said, “I understand him, I used to sit next to him on the Madrid team bus. Raul has the ambition to continue playing in the Champions League and is thinking seriously about Schalke. He has even been told which teams his sons will play in. He is in top shape. He was injured only once in my three years at Madrid. He has a great personality and his presence would be a huge boost for this young team.”

Though Raul has been out of favor lately at Madrid, he still has the scoring prowess. In fact, Schalke is now considering Raul as the possible replacement for Brazilian striker Kevin Kuranyi who has moved to Dynamo Moscow this summer.

Raul has already become a legend for Spain and Real Madrid. The three time Champions League winner is currently the all time highest scorer of Spain and Real Madrid.
