ICC Champions Trophy 2009: Savior of ODI Format?

ICC Champions Trophy 2009 starts from Tuesday (22 September). Top 8 test playing countries are going to take part in the tournament. This is the second ranked ODI tournament after world cup and there is no doubt, it is one of the most important tournaments based on 50-over format of the game.

The importance of this upcoming tournament is more than any other previous tournament as the ODI format is now on the verge of getting extinct with Twenty20 gradually becoming the curtain raiser in cricket. ODI format could be stopped in the near future if it continues failing to attract the fans. So, Champions trophy 2009 seems to be a litmus test for ODI format of cricket. If Champions trophy can become a huge hit, then there is every possibility ODI format may survive amid the growing popularity of twenty20 cricket.
