Vidhu Vinod Chopra: The Real Idiot in ‘3 Idiots’

It was really shocking to anyone who saw the press conference in television. I watched part of it in Zee News and I clearly saw Vidhu Vinod Chopra shouting with a journalist and asking him to ‘shut up’ instead of answering his question. The reported asked him in a gentle tone whether the allegation of 70% the story of ‘3 Idiots’ being copied from a book (Five Point Someone) by Chetan Bhagat. The journalist was asked whether he himself had read the book. The journalist told the truth that he had not. Then Vidhu Vinod Chopra shouted to him that he should shut up.
The way, Vidhu Vinod Chopra shouted was really shocking and a disgrace to Bollywood film industry. It is the duty of the journalists to try to know the fact. It was after all a press conference. The journalist never claimed that he read the book. He just asked about the allegation from the author of Five Point Someone. The way Vidhu Vinod Chopra reacted was horrible. He should apologize to the reporter. Chopra could have taken some time and explained that why he felt that ‘3 Idiots’ was mostly an original movie and was not adapted from Five Point Someone. Instead, he acted in a very dirty way in front of the media. Now, millions of people inside and outside of India could see his impolite behavior.
What is really double shocking to me is that Vidhu Vinod Chopra claimed that he had read the book. So, what was his problem to explain the differences between the book and movie! What he had to hide with his anger and screaming? If he has really read the book and he is confident that the 70% of the movie is not similar to the book then he should call another press conference tomorrow and explain his side of the story.
