Jiah Khan was born on February 20, 1988, to Ali Rizvi Khan and Rabiya Amin. Rabiya was a Bollywood actress of the 80s from Agra. Jiah Khan was born in New York for her father was an Indian American and raised in Chelsea, London. Jiah Khan studied English literature and acting at Lee Strasberg Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. She quit her studies after receiving an offer to act in a Bollywood movie. She was supposed to made her Bollywood debut at the age of sixteen in Tumsa Nahin Dekha with Emraan Hashmi. The movie was directed by Mukesh Bhatt. Later, she walked out as she felt that the role was too mature for her. The character was then played by Dia Mirza. At that time, rumor of a romantic relationship between Emraan Hashmi and Jiah Khan came out.

In 2007, Jiah Khan got her first big break in Nishabd. In the movie, she was paired up with Amitabh Bachchan. The movie created lots of controversies for it showed a romantic relationship between a sixty year old man and a nineteen year old girl. Released in March 2007, Nishabd did not do well at the box office but Jiah Khan was recognized for her acting talent and landed with Filmfare Best Debutant nomination.

In Nishabd, Jiah even sang a song, “Take Lite.” The song revealed Jiah Khan’s philosophy in life. The lyrics was written by her when she was sixteen years old and she also composed music for the song. She even choreographed the song and did a Shakira style hip shaking. When Nishabd’s producer and director, Ram Gopal Verma, heard the song, he liked it very much and requested her to produce the song.

In 2008, Jiah Khan played supporting character in Aamir Khan’s superhit thriller, Ghajini. Jiah Khan shot for a significant portion of Chance Pe Dance with Shahid Kapoor but she was replaced by Genelia D'souza. Still, UTV Motion Pictures, who produced Chance Pe Dance, signed her up for two other films. This was followed by another three-film deal with Madhu Mantena, producer of Ghajini.

Rumor spread out that Jiah Khan was the illegitimate daughter of Tahir Hussain which made her step sister of Aamir Khan but it was later cleared by Jiah Khan that she had no relationship with Aamir Khan. Even, Aamir Khan’s father, late Tahir Hussain, said that he had no relationship with Jiah’s mother.

Jiah Khan received extensive training in opera. She has a great passion for music and dancing. For nine years, she learned different kinds of dancing. She knows five different types of dancing including belly dancing, salsa, lambada, samba and kathak but she found her calling in acting. She is also a very good piano player. Before coming to movies, she was planning to release her own pop album but could not do so for lack of money.
