Sardar Patel Stadium Motera Ahmedabad: Some Information

In Google Trends India, I have seen many people searching on net about Sardar Patel Stadium. This is going to be the venue of 13th match in the third edition of Indian Premier League. In this match, Rajasthan Royals will take on Kolkata Knight on 20th March 2010. This match is scheduled to start at 10:30 GMT and 16:00 Indian Standard Time. Sardar Patel Stadium is one the new five venues that have been introduced in IPL 2010. This venue will share some of the home matches of Rajasthan Royals.

Sardar Patel Stadium is a cricket stadium which is located at the outskirt of Ahmedabad. It is built on the bank of Sabarmati River in 1982. State government donated 50-acre land to build this stadium. It took only nine months to be completed in the year 1982. It has the capacity to accommodate about 48000 spectators. But it has an official capacity of 54,000. This stadium has all the modern equipments including floodlight system for day-night games.

This stadium is also called Motera Stadium as it is located Motera, area of Ahmedabad. The first test of this match was played between India and the West Indies on 12th November 1983. This venue hosted its first ODI match between India and Australia on 5th October 1984. This venue was helpful for bowlers but later it was made for competitive games.

Some great players have made their records in this venue. Sunil Gavaskar completed his 10,000 runs in Test cricket against Pakistan in 1986/87 season. Another legend player Kapil Dev claimed 9 wickets in an innings against West Indies in 1983/84 season which was the opening match of this venue. He also claimed his 432nd wickets in Test cricket and he passed Sir Richard Hadlee’s record. He became the highest wickets taker in Test cricket at his time.
