Hollywood actress Dorothy Provine dies at 75

Dorothy Provine, a popular Hollywood actress of the 50s and the 60s passed away on April 25, 2010. The seventy five year old actress was suffering from emphysema. Dorothy Provine was a talented actress, singer, dance and comedienne. She was born in Deadwood, South Dakota. While studying at the University of Washington, Dorothy appeared in many amateur stage productions.

Dorothy Provine appeared in many TV series and movies. Her biggest success was It’s a Mad Mad Mad World, a comedy movie released in 1963. The movie tells the story of a group of people who runs after $350,000 in stolen cash. Provine’s other major work includes The Bonnie Parker Story (1958), The 30 Foot Bride of Candy Rock (1959). It was also Lou Costello’s last appearance.

She also appeared in Who’s Minding the Mint? is another comedy made in 1967. The hero of the movie Harry Lucas (Jim Hutton) works at at the U.S. Mint in Washintong, D.C. Her co-worker Verna Baxter (Dorothy Provine) tries to woo him with her home-cooked but inedible fudge. The story takes a different turn when Lucas accidentally brushes $50,000 in currency into the bag with the fudge.
