Lalit Modi Suspended as IPL Chief and BCCI Vice President

Proving all the speculations true, BCCI has finally suspended Lalit Modi as IPL chairman. A notice signed by BCCI president Shashank Manohar has been issued which also carries removal order for Modi as BCCI vice president. Both the decisions were taken by the high officials of BCCI who also prepared the charges, which will be revealed after detailed investigation. BCCI has called a press conference for tomorrow. BCCI president said that all the questions regarding Modi’s suspension will be answered in that conference.

BCCI’s rule 32 will most probably come into effect which gives the power to the president to sack any member, player or umpire if needed. BCCI will now have to conduct a detailed investigation into Modi’s function and conducts as IPL chairman. It is believed that a number of charges will be brought against Lalit Modi who became IPL chairman since the inception of this twenty20 tournament. Modi will have to attend the hearing before the final decision is taken by the general body. His suspension could be revoked within 6 months, if the charges brought against him are proven wrong.

Lalit Modi was the centre of all controversy over the last one week after he had revealed the details of the equity of the shareholders of IPL Kochi franchise, which forced junior foreign ministry Shashi Tharoor. Since then, various questions regarding Modi’s activities started appearing in the media. Deals signed by Lalit Modi as IPL chairman and his other activities are now under scrutiny.
