Madhuri Gupta: Indian diplomat arrested for spying

Madhuri Gupta, a junior Indian diplomat, was arrested on the charges of spying for the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan. In 2006-2007, she worked as an assistant director at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA). Later, she was transferred to Islamabad and worked at the Indian High Commission.

Madhuri Gupta is fluent in Urdu. A lower cadre of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) known as IFS B, Madhuri had been very interested to go to Pakistan. She worked in the press and information section of the Indian High Commission in Pakistan for the last couple of years. Indian authority followed her movements for the last couple of months. She was arrested after being confirmed that she has been giving out sensitive information.

Police told reporters that Delhi Police’s special cell arrested Madhuri Gupta from her house in East Delhi. She was arrested for spying and leaking out important documents. Prior to his arrest, she was detained and questioned for 2-3 days.

On April 26, 2010, Madhuri Gupta was produced in the court. Police then took her into their custody. Soon, Ministry of External Affairs will publish press release regarding her arrest.
