This year, more than one million students sat for the AIEEE exam. 30 NITs, 5 IIITs / IIITM / IIITDM, 10 other Central / State Government funded institutions and some Self Financed Deemed Universities / Institutes will admit students to various undergraduate courses in Engineering / Technology and Architecture / Planning based on their performance in AIEEE 2010. The students will be admitted through a centralized counseling procedure.

The AIEEE was created in 2002 after The Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India decided to do away with all the entrance examinations that took place in various engineering colleges all over India to admit students in various undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Based on the results of AIEEE, students are admitted to various courses in Engineering / Technology, Pharmacy and Architecture.

The government then created Central Councelling Board (CCB) which coordinates the admission examination.

Currently, the Director of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur, has been appointed as the Chairman of CCB.

This year, Vipul Singh from Bhilai became the All India Topper in AIEEE securing 412 marks. He said that in order to become successful in exams one is not required to become a bookworm. He said that the key to success is “practice and logical reasoning.”

Vipul wants to have a career in Computer Science Engineering. He wants to complete his degree from IIT Mumbai. In future, he wants to do his MS and PhD from MIT boston and conduct research in the field of mathematics.
