Aishwarya Rai bewitched everyone with her traditional wear at Cannes

On the sixth day of the 63 annual Cannes Film Festival, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan charmed everyone with her traditional sari. She came with her husband, Abhishek Bachchan to attend the premiere of Outrage, a Japanese gangster movie directed by Takeshi Kitano.

Rumor spread out that after Deepika Padukone made her appearance wearing a sari in Cannes and stole the attention, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan decided to make appearance wearing sari.

Since Aishwarya Rai is a brand ambassador of L'Oréal, she had to wear western outfits as per rule, but this time, she made an exception. For the festival opening, she wore a violet tulle and mousseline gown from Elie Saab.

In her second outing with another L'Oréal ambassador, Eva Longoria, she wore a black Armani Prive strapless gown. On the third day, she appeared in a pink Gucci gown accompanied by her mother who wore a cream and gold sari.

Then on the sixth day, she wore a traditional Indian sari studded with stones in a white print with golden border coupled with a low neck blouse. What made it click was her simplicity. The actress was not wearing too much jewelry.

The sari was designed by Indian designer, Sabyasachi Mukherjee.

This is not the first time the actress appeared on the red carpet in a sari. In 2003, she appeared wearing a green sari at the premiere of Dogville. The dress was severely criticized by Indian fashion designers.

This time, some of the top designers of India appreciated Aishwarya Rai’s traditional wear. Ritu Kumar said, "The look was glamourised and it brought back memories of Ash in the film Guru. I also loved the make-up,"

Another designer, Namrata Joshipura said, “It was such a refreshing change. Ash looks great! I am so glad she has finally worn a sari at Cannes.”

Aishwarya first appeared at the Cannes back in 2002, to promote Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas. Since then she has been regularly attending the festival and stunned the audience with her beauty and charm.
