Edwin van der Sar Surprised over His Lengthy Stint at Manchester United

Career success of Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar would be enviable for many footballers. The former Dutch international joined Manchester United in 2005 in a move from Fulham at the age of 34. At that age, no body can even dream to win 3 consecutive league titles and a Champions league title, but that is what he has achieved in reality. Last season, Manchester United requested him to stay for another season. The club has done the same once again this season. That means he will be at Manchester United for another season.

Edwin van der Sar has recently revealed his surprise over his longer-than-expected stint for Manchester United with whom he won 3 premier league and a champions league titles.

Sky Sports reported:

Van der Sar told Inside United: "I still believed I was doing enough to play for a bigger team but you need someone to take a gamble, which Sir Alex Ferguson did. At the time I was 34 so I didn't expect to be here six years.

"I thought that I would be at United for two years and then maybe go and do something else. Instead I am steadily trying to reach my testimonial."

The 39-year-old veteran still hopes that he would win more trophies with Manchester United before he hangs up his boots. He is now also expecting a testimonial match from Manchester United at the time of his retirement. No doubt, he really deserves it because he is the man who saved United from many dangers and helped the club to clinch 3 premier league titles in a row as well as a European title.
