The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), formerly known as Imperial Council of Agricultural Research, is an autonomous organization operating under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education of Ministry of Agriculture. It was established on July 16, 1929 as a registered society under the Societies Registration Act. 1860.

The organization has been continuously working to develop the agriculture sector of the country.

The Zero tillage system introduced by ICAR helped farmers to save valuable money and resources. Sahab Singh is a progressive farmer who highly benefited from this system. Sahab Singh lives in Ramba village in Karnal district of Haryana.

Sahab Singh has 42 ha of land where he grows cereal crops like wheat and paddy twice in a season and fodder crops such as trifolium alexandrinum, shorgum and maize. His land consists of sandy loam soil with 600 mm rainfall.

After getting necessary guidance from scientists of Directorate of Wheat Research, Karnal and Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar he used the Zero tillage technology.

Sahab Singh saved about Rs. 2.5 lakh including labour and money. Previously, women workers had to work hard but now they only cooked meals.
