Revamped Bajaj Discover 150cc offers more mileage and less price

On May 10, 2010, India’s second-largest two-wheeler producer, Bajaj Auto, launched its revamped Bajaj Discover 150 cc bike. The launching ceremony took place at Taj Krishna Hotel in Hyderabad.
Mr. S. Shridhar, CEO, Bajaj Auto said, “Discover 100 took market by a storm with its launch last July. In this short span of time the Discover 100 is already one of the largest selling models in the motorcycle market with current volumes averaging 75,000 pm. With the new Discover 150, we are instilling a fresh momentum and adding riding excitement to the overall Discover portfolio.” He also said that the new Discover is all set to be a pleasure to the commuters’ pocket both in terms of purchase as well as operating cost.
The new Bajaj Discover 150cc is part of Bajaj Auto’s “Bottom-up platform” strategy. Under this new strategy, the company will churn out more powerful bikes using the platform of low-end bikes. The new Bajaj Discover 150cc uses the platform of Discover 100. Previously, it was “top down approach.” For example, the Discover
135cc uses the Pulsar 150 platform.
According to Mr. Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, this new strategy would help the company maximize its revenue margin because 90% of the parts used in Bajaj Discover 100cc are also common to the newly revamped Discover 150cc. He said that his company had thought this all out when it designed the Discover 100 platform.
The new Baja Discover 150cc will be only 10% costlier than Discover 10cc. Now the customers can easily afford a 150cc bike and enjoy better mileage.
The Bajaj Discover 150cc comes with a with DTSi engine with a maximum power capacity of 13PS and 12.75 NM torque. The bike has a 5-speed gearbox. The new bike meets the BSIII emission norm and it has a fuel efficiency of 65 km/l.
Because of the “bottom-up” approach, the new Bajaj Discover 150cc bike weighs only 121 kg compared to the Discover 135 which weighs 133 kg and less fuel efficient providing 55-60 km/l and costs an extra Rs.5000.
Coming with a tag line “More excitement per litre,” Bajaj Discover 150cc will cost Rs.55,000, making it the most affordable 150cc bike in the country . Bajaj will launch the new bike around India in different phases.

  1. Hats off to Bajaj. Every other company sells 150cc bikes for about 65-70k rs.Price sensitive people could not even think of buying a 150cc,especially young college goers. So they have to be happy with useless 125cc bikes like shine, glamour etc.
My request is that ..please dont discontinue this product after a couple of years or so.
