Salman Butt Could Become Pakistan’s New Test Captain

Salman Butt is favorite to become the new captain of Pakistan test team. Selectors will name the Pakistan squad for England tour on 22 May. It is likely that the left-handed batsmen would be appointed new test captain for Pakistan test team.

Pakistan selectors do not have many options for the captaincy role as PCB recently imposed indefinite ban on the senior players like Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan, while another former captain Shoaib Malik was banned for a year.

The board punished a number of Pakistan players on disciplinary ground after Pakistan team had returned from a disappointing Australia tour earlier this year.

Shahid Afridi, who was imposed monetary punishment, is currently Pakistan’s twenty20 captain. He is expected to continue his job for next month’s Asia Cup and limited over matches during the England tour.

Pakistan will take part in Asia Cup Cricket 2010 starting from 15 June before heading to England. In England, Pakistan will play two Twenty20 and two test matches against Pakistan, before facing England in a four-match test series and five-match ODI series.
