Schedule of Indian Tour of Zimbabwe and Tri Nation Series 2010

India is going to start its Zimbabwe tour with the tri nation ODI series that also involves Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. The tournament begins on 28 May with India taking on host Zimbabwe at the Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo. Sri Lanka will play their first match at the same venue on 30 May against India.

Three teams will play against each other twice. Top two teams in terms of points will meet in the tournament final on 9 June at the Harare Sports Club ground. Following the tri-nation tournament, India and Zimbabwe will face each other in a 2-match twenty20 series. Both of the 2 twenty20 internationals will take place at the Harare Sports Club ground.

For India, it is a very significant tournament as it gives an ideal opportunity to see the future of Indian cricket. Selectors named a very young squad for the tri-nation tournament and the twenty20 series. In fact, 9 of India’s regular players are absent from the tour with some being rested while other being injured.

Young batsman Suresh Raina will lead India for the first time as Dhoni has been rested. Most importantly, Indian pace attack would face a stiff challenge as it lacks of experience.

Players like Dinda, Pankaj Singh, Umesh Yadav and Vinay Kumar have done well in domestic cricket and in IPL. Now, they have to prove their talent and skill at international stage. Even in the spin attack, there is a new face in R Ashwin who impressed with Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2010.

Zimbabwe will also be led by a new captain in this tournament. Prosper Utseya quit the captaincy after returning home from twenty20 world cup 2010. All rounder Elton Chigumbura has been appointed new captain of Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka have not announced their squad for the tri-nation ODI tournament yet.
