Telenor Uninor India pushes Price Cut to Grow in India

India has right now the fastest growing mobile phone market in the world. It is also perhaps one of the top most attractive markets in the world because of its huge revenue potential. Telenor is already the top name in Bangladesh with its brand Grameen Phone. It is also doing well in Pakistan but in India, it still does not have even 1% of the total mobile phone subscriber base. In a bid to boost its position in Indian market, Telenor is going for a very aggressive price cut. In India Telenor is known as Uninor and their have been a report that the price of Uninor could go as low as just 25 paisa per minute. If it really happens then it will be good for the consumer and it will perhaps help Uninor to get some more customers.
I don’t think that this price cut will have the company that much. What I certainly feel the lack of Telenor in Indian market is television advertising. I can find that other leading operators are carrying out some excellent advertising campaigns. Here, I like to mention about Vodafone, Tata Docomo and Airtel. They have very attractive advertisements. However, I cannot find that many promotional activities of Uninor in Indian TV channels yet.
I think that this is one area Telenor officials in India should work out aggressively.
