Apple iPhone 4 is Here for the Consumers

At the Apple World Wide Developers Conference at Moscone West in San Francisco, Steve Jobs, Apple’s legendary CEO, unveiled the Apple iPhone 4. Popular tech-gadget, Gizmodo, revealed the phone to the world earlier. Apple made sure that Gizmodo does not appear at WWDC.

During his famous keynote speech, Steve Jobs, appearing in his trademark jeans and turtleneck, announced the iPhone 4 amid great applause. The program started at 1:03 p.m. ET. Jobs referred iPhone 4 as “the biggest leap since the original iPhone.” He said, “This is beyond doubt one of the most precise, beautiful things we've ever made.”

The new Apple iPhone comes in two categories- 16 GB and 32 GB. The 16GB model would cost $199 and the 32GB $299. AT&T will be the official carrier. Users would be able to upgrade to Apple iPhone 4 six months earlier if they sign up for another two-year contract. Apple will start taking pre-orders from June 15, 2010 and it will be launched in the stores on June 24, 2010 in the U.S and the UK.

The Apple iPhone 4 is lighter and thinner. It is only 9.3 mm thick. The phone sports an outer cover made of stainless steel. The cover also serves as an antenna for Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, UMTS, and GSM. The phone comes in black and white color.

For the first time, the Apple iPhone will have video calling capability but it only works with WiFi.

Apple iPhone 4 sports a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash on the back. There is also a backside illuminated sensor for higher quality. User would also be able to record videos on HD format 720p at 30fps. There is also the Geotagging system.

Apple also released a new application called iMovie for the new iPhone. It would enable the user to edit movies on his/her. The application cost $5 in App store.

It has two microphones just like Google’s Nexus One to cancel noise.

The Apple iPhone 4 has the A4 chip that is used in Apple iPad.

A bigger and more powerful battery with 7 hours of talk time, 6 hours of 3G browsing, 300 hours of standby time.

Along with accelerometer the new Apple iPhone 4 sports a gyroscope, which gives its user “6-axis motion sensing.” It also has the compass, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor.

The Apple iPhone 4G sports Retina Display. The display measures 3.5 inch which is the same like Apple iPhone 3G and Apple iPhone. The display uses IPS technology which is also used in Apple iPad. However, the new iPhone would support all the applications of iPhone and iPhone 3G. Developers can include higher resolution graphics if they want.

Apple iPhone 4 comes with iOS 4, a new operating system that comes with many new features which includes multitasking, unified inbox, conversation threading and many more. The same OS would also become available on iPod Touch and iPad.

Apple also released the iOS 4 golden master candidate and iOS 4. Users of iPhone 3GS, 3G, second generation iPod Touch would get iOS 4 for free. It would be released on June 21, 2010.

Google will be the default search engine on the Apple iPhone 4 but users would be able to choose between Yahoo and Bing.

The iBooks application, which was previously available in Apple iPad, would also be available in Apple iPhone 4. There are two new features- PDF file reading capability and iBookstore integration. Now, any users would have to buy a book once and would be able to use on his iOS devices.
