The Apple iPhone is the most popular smart phone in the world but it only supports the network approved by Apple. It would not run on any network. For example, in America, the iPhone will only run AT&T’s network. In the UK, it is O2 network. An unlocked iPhone would run on any network carrier.

In India, currently, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone are the official agents of Apple iPhone.

With unlocked Apple iPhone, you would be able to use multiple SIM cards and get the best contract deal.

On the other hand, the iPhone only runs software that are approved by Apple. By “Jailbreaking” a user would be able to run any type of software he/she likes.

With a jailbroken iPhone, a user can perform many functions. He would be able to customize his jailbroken iPhone and install any software. He can install his favorite icons, ring tones, wallpapers, games etc. He can also use Yahoo, MSN, and AIM instant messenger and transfer files via Bluetooth.

Users can also install a VoIP software called Fring on their jailbroken iPhones which would help them to make international calls at a lower price.

The jailbroken iPhone can also serve as a default camera or video camera, GPS navigator, modem for laptop. By installing the Unix OS, the user can turn the iPhone into a mini computer.

However, by unlocking or jailbreaking the iPhone there is a good chance that you might lose your warranty.
