Box office collection of Raavan Hindi movie is unimpressive

There was lot of hype before the release and it started with a bang but ended in wimp. In short, this is the story of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai starrer Raavan.

The movie was released in 2200 theatres around the world in three languages. As per news reports, the movie did a business worth Rs.200 million worldwide in the opening day.

However, it had a poor opening weekend. On June 18, 2010, the movie collected Rs.57.5 million followed by Rs.52.5 million and Rs.60 million on June 20, 2010. In total, the movie collected Rs.170 million in its opening weekend.

In abroad, Raavan also did poorly. In the first weekend, the movie collected around Rs.67.5 million. Despite receiving rave reviews from North American critics it did not do so well.

In total, Raavan collection would range from Rs.230 million to Rs.240 million in the opening weekend. However, the Telugu and Tamil version did better business than the Hindi version. Both versions collected around Rs.120 million in the opening weekend.

Traders are expecting that the regional versions of the movie would collect about Rs. 180 million. With its overall collection, the movie would be able to reach at break even point.

It is bad news for the film’s distributors for they bought it over priced.

Once again it has been proven that Katrina Kaif is the darling of box office. Her political thriller, Raajneeti is still going strong at the box office. The movie collected Rs. 780 million in two weeks and is expected to an overall business of about Rs.900 million standing as the “Blockbuster” of 2010.
