Raul of Real Madrid Close to Join Manchester United

Manchester United is reportedly very close to sign Real Madrid captain Raul who is believed to be planning to leave Bernabéu this Summer. At 33, he is not at his best at the moment and scored only 7 goals in his 37 appearances last season.

It is understandable that he is not in manager Jose Mourinho’s first team plan and would have to sit out most of the time next season, if he stays at Real Madrid. On the other hand, a number of European as well as MLS clubs are showing interest for Raul.

Real Madrid is also ready to let him go on a free transfer, though the player has a year left in his contract. Playing for so many years and achieving so many titles, it is natural that he has affection for the club. However, he would still prefer a move looking for more first team football as he is towards the end of his career.

Besides Manchester United, Raul has attracted interest from Schalke, Blackburn Rovers and Sampdoria. Moreover, a number of Major League Soccer clubs are also keen to secure his service.

Raul has already become a legend of Real Madrid after spending 16 seasons with the Spanish giants. He currently holds the record of most appearances for Real Madrid after representing the Los Blancos in 741 matches in all competition. He is also the all time highest scorer for Real Madrid with 323 goals to his credit. Raul is also Spain’s all time scorer with 44 goals.
