USA vs Slovenia 2010: Matjaz Kek Looking to Create History

After Slovenia’s 1-0 win over Algeria in their World Cup opener, Slovenia coach Matjaz Kek now has a big dream to be fulfilled. He is now expecting his boys to defeat USA in their Friday encounter, and thus, winning a place in the Round of 16.

Reaching the next round from Group C which also features England would be similar to creating history for the Slovenians. In their only previous World Cup appearance in 2002, Slovenia lost all of their three group matches. So, the 1-0 victory over Algeria, their first win in World Cup finals, has already been marked as a special event in the history of Slovenian football.

Slovenia can ensure their progress to the next round with a victory over USA in their second match. Matjaz Kek is highly hopeful about his players. The most important thing is that Slovenian players are now confident and more determined to give their best against the Americans. They all are ready to be part of history now.

USA would not be less confident either. Following their 1-1 draw against England, the Americans are now looking to pick up full 3 points from the second match in what would almost ensure their place in the next round. The good news in the USA camp is that goalkeeper Tim Howard has been declared fit to start against Slovenia.

USA would make a big mistake if they take the Slovenians lightly, considering that the job would be easier than that of England. However, the reality is that they could even face a stiffer competition from Slovenia as the Europeans would play not only for a mere victory, but also for creating history.
