Yossi Benayoun to Join Chelsea

Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun has come very close to join Chelsea. Reports have it in the media that Chelsea would spend £6.5million in order to acquire the service of Benayoun. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.

It is believed that Chelsea is yet to meet Liverpool’s valuation of the player. Liverpool put a £10m price tag on Benayoun when Rafael Benitez was the manager and CSKA Moscow offered £7.5 million for the player.

However, the 30-year-old has no intention to go to Russia. Rather, he is keen to join the current Premier League champion Chelsea where he would be able to play in Champions League.

Liverpool is going through a tough time both on and off the field. The All Reds failed to clinch a Champions League spot last season as they finished 7th in the table. Their performance in Europe was also disappointing.

Moreover, Liverpool is under huge debt and they are totally inactive in the summer transfer window. In fact, keeping the current players has become a big issue for the club ahead of the next season.

Manager Rafael Benitez left the club recently to join Inter Milan. A number of Liverpool players have been linked with a move to other European clubs. Captain Steven Gerrard has become a target of Real Madrid, while Barcelona is eyeing on Javier Mascherano. Striker Fernando Torres has attracted attention of Manchester City.
