Chelsea Signed Tomas Kalas for £5m from Czech Republic

Premier League club Chelsea has signed 17-year-old Czech Republican defender Tomas Kalas for a reported transfer fee of around £5 million. Reports available in the media also suggest that the player was the target of a number of European clubs including Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen, AC Milan and Hoffenheim.

Though the player is now the property of Chelsea, he would spend the next season at Czech club Olomouc on loan and would return to the West London club after the end of the next season.

It seems Tomas Kalas is relatively unknown outside Czech Republic. Though he has attracted attention of some big clubs in Europe, there is very little information available in internet about this Czech defender.

It is definitely a good move from Chelsea. Their ageing squad has been a cause of concern for their fans and young players like Tomas Kalas could bring a balance in their squad. Chelsea’s central defense is now at the hands of John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho, both of whom are now in their 30’s.

Moreover, there is no one around who could replace the likes of Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka at Chelsea. So, the West London club should bring in a few more young players and nurture their talent so that they can gradually become matured and replace their experienced players.
