Leander Paes and Cara Black have won Mixed Doubles Title at Wimbledon 2010

Doubles specialist Leander Paes, along with his Zimbabwean partner Cara Black, pulled off a 6-4, 7-6(5) straight set victory over Wesley Moodie and Lisa Raymond pair in the mixed doubles final of Wimbledon 2010 today (4 July).

Paes and Black did not face much resistance from Moodie-Raymond pair in the first set. However, the second one was tougher for Paes and Black. In fact, the second set was decided in tie-breaker. Overall, Paes-Black pair outperformed Moodie and Raymond to win the mixed doubles title of Wimbledon 2010.

This has been the pair’s third mixed doubles grand slam title together and first at Wimbledon. However, individually this is not the first Wimbledon mixed doubles success of Leander Paes and Cara Black.

With this title, Leander Paes now has 3 Wimbledon mixed doubles titles to his credit. Overall, the 37-year-old has won 6 grand slam mixed doubles titles so far with French Open being the only grand slam tournament he is yet to win. Paes won 6 grand slam doubles titles too.

For Cara Black, this was the second mixed doubles title at Wimbledon. She earlier won the mixed doubles title at Wimbledon 2004 pairing up with her brother Wayne Black with whom she also clinched the French Open title in 2002.

Overall, Cara Black has 5 mixed doubles grand slam titles to her credit and holds a prestigious “Career Grand Slam” in mixed doubles, winning all four grand slam tournaments at least once. The Zimbabwean has also won 7 doubles grand slam titles.
