Manchester City Signing Yaya Toure to Earn £220,000 in Weekly Salary

Yaya Toure is going to become the first ever English Premier League player to reach the £200,000 mark in weekly salary. The former Barcelona midfielder has recently joined Manchester City on a five year contract which would see him earning £220,000 per week at his new club.

So, Manchester City would spend total £55.6 million over the next five years only to pay the player’s salary. Now, the question is if Yaya Toure, at 27, really deserves a weekly salary of more than £200,000.

Everybody knows that Manchester City has been in spending spree since the Arab takeover of the club in 2008. Last season, they spent a huge amount to sign the players like Kolo Toure, who is the brother of Yaya, Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz, Gareth Barry and Joleon Lescott. Still, they could not win any silverware, but they have continued their spending spree this summer too.

Barcelona’s out-of-favor midfielder Yaya Toure joined Manchester City for £27.5 million which really seems pretty much odd for a player who has already seen his best at another club. In-form players like Steven Gerrard and Ashley Cole, two Real Madrid targets, are even rated in the region of £30 million.

Moreover, Yaya Toure does not deserve a weekly salary of £220,000, while players like Cesc Fabregas and Frank Lampard can not even dare to claim such a huge amount from their clubs.

Overall, Manchester City may have found money coming in a flurry through the Arab channel lately, but they just do not know how to spend it effectively and appropriately. The bottom line is that no body would be surprised if Manchester City suffers the same fate of Portsmouth and Liverpool in future.
