Tamil Nadu is an Indian state. Its history goes back to pre-historic times. The history of Tamil Nadu and Tamil civilization is one of the oldest in the world. As per archaeological evidence, found in Adichanallur, 24 km (15 mi) from Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu was inhabited by people during the Neolithic period. Archaeologists from the Archaelogical Survey of India unearthed 169 clay urns containing human skulls, skeletons and bones, plus husks and grains of rice, charred rice and Neolithic celts.

The ASI archaeologists even found script at that site which is rudimentary Tamil Brahmi script.

Recently, discoveries of prehistoric creatures inhabiting the area of what is known as the modern day Tamil Nadu have been made in the shape of dinosaur eggs. Geologists of Tamil Nadu found hundreds of dinosaur eggs buried in the sands of river bed which were perhaps 65 million years old.

Today, Tamil Nadu is the eleventh largest state in India in terms of area which is about the size of Greece and the seventh most populous state. It is the fifth largest contributor to India’s GDP and most urbanized state in India.
