Top Five Scorers of World Cup 2010 until Quarter Final

There are only four matches left in the FIFA World Cup 2010 including two semi finals, final and the third place play off. While four teams are now in the race to win the title, there are at least five players who are currently competing to win the golden boot as the highest scorer of the tournament.

Five leading scorers of World Cup Football 2010 until quarter final are:

David Villa (Spain) Goals: 5

The Spanish striker has been instrumental behind Spain’s progress to this far in the tournament. Spain won 4 out of their 5 matches and Villa scored on every winning occasion. In the knock out stage, Spain won both of their matches through Villa’s strikes. David Villa also won the Golden Boot in Euro 2008 where Spain became champion.

Miroslav Klose (Germany) Goals: 4

When it comes to scoring, Klose is always one of the best. In his previous two World Cup tournaments, Klose scored 10 goals and has added 4 more in the current tournament, and thus, taking his World Cup goal tally to 14, just 1 short of Brazilian striker Ronaldo’s record 15 goals.

Wesley Sneijder (Netherlands) Goals: 4

Sneijder is the only midfielder in the list. He has played a key role in their victory over Brazil and Slovakia in the knock out stage. The Inter Milan star would now try to score more goals in the coming two matches, and thus, helping his country to win the first world cup title and strengthening his claim to win the golden boot.

Thomas Muller (Germany) Goals: 4

The 20-year-old has impressed with his scoring prowess. The Bayern Munich youngster would, however, miss the semi final match with Spain due to his suspension. So, it could decrease his chances of being the top scorer of the tournament.

Diego Forlán (Uruguay) Goals: 3

Coming off a highly successful season with Atlético Madrid, the 31-year-old Uruguayan star has scored 3 goals until quarter final and is one of the strongest contenders to win the golden boot as there are two matches left for him to increase his goal tally. He scored the equalizing goal for his team against Ghana in the quarter final.

Five players mentioned above may have better chances to win the Golden Boot, but there is every possibility someone like Luis Suarez and Lukas Podolski could surprisingly win the title.
