Wikipedia Encyclopedia was down due to power failure

Wikipedia, the most popular online encyclopedia had been down for more than an hour. Initially, many believed that it was down due to cyber attacks but then news reports said that due to power outage at its Florida data center, the website went down.

Wikipedia administrators Tweeted that they had been working on the problem. They later issued an update saying that the website was “slowly” coming back.

Liam Wyatt, Vice President, Wikimedia Australia, Tweeted that air conditioners at the data center failed causing the servers to overheat. What made the matter worse was that the website was down when most of its employees have been traveling.

Upon logging into the website people would get this message, “Meta has a problem. Sorry! This site is experiencing technical difficulties. Try waiting a few minutes and reloading,”

Then another message would come up “Can’t contact the database server: Unknown error (10.0.6.27),”

Though many accuse the website of providing inaccurate and inconsistent information, Wikipedia is still one of the most visited websites on the Internet. Every day, thousands of people visit the website to get information on various matters. Students make up a large portion of the visitors who access this site for research and other purpose.
