Wimbledon 2010 Tennis: List of winners

Wimbledon 2010, the 124th event of Wimbledon, has come to an end today with Rafael Nadal clinching the men’s singles title after defeating Tomáš Berdych. Serena Williams successfully defended her women’s singles title following her victory over Russian Vera Zvonareva.

Interestingly, the losing finalists of both men’s and women’s singles events made their first ever appearances in a grand slam final in this tournament. Both men’s and women’s singles events saw some high-profile upsets in the tournament.

In the men’s singles, defending champion Roger Federer surprisingly lost to eventual finalist 12th seed Berdych in the quarter final. Berdych also defeated 3rd seed Novak Djokovic in the semi final, while Lu Yen-hsun from Chinese Taipei stopped fifth seed Andy Roddick in the fourth round.

In the women’s singles, losing finalist Vera Zvonareva defeated two former world no. 1 players Kim Clijsters and Jelena Jankovic. In the semi final, Zvonareva also defeated unseeded Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova who defeated Venus Williams in the quarter final and Marion Bartoli in the fourth round. Estonian qualifier Kaia Kanepi also surprisingly reached the quarter final of the tournament.

Gentlemen's Invitation Doubles- Donald Johnson (USA) and Jared Palmer (USA)

Ladies' Invitation Doubles- Martina Navratilova (USA) and Jana Novotna (Czech Republic)

Senior Gentlemen's Invitation Doubles- Pat Cash (Australia) and Mark Woodforde (Australia)

Wheelchair Men's Doubles- Robin Ammerlaan (Netherlands) and Stefan Olsson (Sweden)

Wheelchair Women's Doubles- Esther Vergeer (Netherlands) and Sharon Walraven (Netherlands)

Indian tennis star Leander Paes picked up his 3rd mixed doubles Wimbledon title as he, along with Zimbabwean Cara Black, defeated Lisa Raymond and Wesley Moodie pair in the final. Overall, this has been 6th grand slam mixed doubles title for Paes.

In men’s doubles, Jürgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner pair clinched the title after defeating Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecău in the final. In women’s doubles final, Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova defeated Russian pair Elena Vesnina and Vera Zvonareva.
