Zanetti to Javier Mascherano: Come to Inter Milan

Javier Mascherano has been linked with a move to Inter Milan since the appointment of Inter’s new boss Rafael Benitez this summer. Benitez parted way with Liverpool before joining the Italian giants and is now keen to secure the service of his former student whom he brought at Anfield from West Ham United in 2007.

Javier Mascherano is also reportedly interested to reunite with his former boss, but Barcelona still remains an option for the Argentina captain. The 26-year-old has also been linked with the Catalan side. Barcelona is currently in search of a defensive midfielder to replace Yaya Toure who recently completed his move to Manchester City.

Javier Zanetti, the Inter Milan captain and Mascherano’s Argentina teammate, has now asked his compatriot to join him at Inter Milan. Zanetti has said that Mascherano is a great player and his playing style would suit that of Inter Milan.

Liverpool has reportedly understood that Javier Mascherano would not stay at Anfield anymore and is now asking a hefty £35 million for the player. It is an amount that cash-trapped Barcelona seems less likely to pay. In fact, Inter Milan would not like to pay that much an amount for Mascherano.

However, Liverpool could come to the negotiation table at last upon the insistence of the player, and in that case, Barcelona could revive their interest in the Argentina international. Mascherano has so far played 93 league matches for Liverpool over the last 3 years.

Liverpool is currently finding it hard to keep hold on their star players, but manager Roy Hodgson is trying his best to convince the players like Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres to stay at Anfield.
