Maruti Suzuki introduced CNG versions of its five popular models

India’s top passenger car maker, Maruti Suzuki, on August 13, 2010, unveiled CNG versions of its five popular car models- SX4, Eeco, WagonR, Estilo and Alto. The models are launched in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Gujrat.

Mr Jairam Ramesh, Hon'ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) Environment and Forests, Maruti Suzuki Management team and other senior government officials were present at the show.

The new models feature Maruti Suzuki’s 'intelligent-Gas Port Injection' or i-GPI CNG-engine technology. Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India said, “This is the first instance when a car manufacturer has developed and launched factory-fitted technologically superior CNG engines in India. CNG is environment-friendly and also reduce country's dependence on imported fuels. The company's big ticket entry into the CNG fuel segment augurs well for the environment.”

The i-GPI bi-fuel technology supports both CNG and petrol and offers smooth riding experience similar to petrol-engine. They are also highly fuel-efficient, safe and reliable.

The CNG version of sedan SX4 Vxi is priced at Rs. 7.47 lakh, WagonR Lxi Rs. 4.11 lakh, Estilo Lxi Rs. 4.05 lakh, Eeco 5-seater AC Rs. 3.64 lakh and Alto Lxi Rs. 3.23 lakh.

Mr. Nakanishi also said that buyers would get full warranty benefits including extended warranty and they vehicles would also get necessary technical support from the 2,700 service outlets of Maruti Suzuki spread across India.
