Munaf Patel Recalled to the ODI Squad of India

Munaf Patel has been recalled to the one-day squad of India which is currently participating in the ongoing tri-nation series in Sri Lanka. The pacer would be a back up for Ishant Sharma who missed India’s tournament opener against New Zealand due to knee injury.

Abhimanyu Mithun, who impressed in the test series, deputized for Ishant in the first match that India lost by 200 runs. However, the Karnataka pacer suffered a heat stroke after bowling just four overs during the match. That is why, Munaf Patel has been asked to join the Indian squad in Sri Lanka and he would now be the understudy of Ishant Sharma.

However, the good news for the Indian fans is that Ishant took part in the practice session on Thursday and looked pretty much fit. So, it seems the lanky pacer would be available for India’s second match against Sri Lanka on 16 August. So, Munaf Patel would get the nod only if Ishant fails to get over his knee injury.

India drew 1-1 with Sri Lanka in the recently concluded three-match test series. Munaf Patel was also part of the test squad, but did not feature in any of the test matches. He was recalled to the test squad as the replacement of injured Sreesanth.
