How to Download Google Chrome OS: Will it be Good for South Asia?

This is a question that has been going on in the mid of many Internet Users in India today. I found in Google Trends that some good number of people are searching about download chrome os. Many users are also searching about “Google Chrome” now. I am interested about this OS because it should be free (I could not find any concrete information that whether it will be free or advertisement supported) and it should be a great blessing for all the computer users in India and other South Asian countries as most people really cannot afford to buy Microsoft products. So, software piracy is very high in this part of the world. So, may be Google Chrome can help in this regard.

Well, there is one basic problem. What I understand is that Chrome OS will be browser based OS and in other words, you will not high speed Internet connection to use it. You will also need to be connected to Internet when you want to use it. Online connectivity is not a problem in Europe and America. However, it is a big challenge for users in South Asia. First of all, Internet is not affordable for most people and speed is not good either. So, unless Google comes up with an offline version of its Operating System, Chrome OS will not make any difference for the Internet users in South Asia.

Now, let us go back to the question of downloading Chrome OS. Well, what I understand is that Google has just announced that it is developing it. There is no way to download it. For that you will have to wait another few months.

Official Google Blog wrote:

Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we're already talking to partners about the project, and we'll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.

So, you have to wait more.
