Bollywood receives a big blow with six flop movies

Few days ago, I wrote a post about changes in the Bollywood film industry. Last week, Bollywood movie makers learned another new lesson hard way. On September 28, 2009, six movies were released- Daddy Cool, Quick Gun Murugun, Toss, Yeh Mera India, Kisaan and Love Khichdi were released. Unfortunately, none of the movies did very well at the box office. Quick Gun Murugun, which received lots of media coverage, failed to impress people. Kaminey and Life Partner which were released in mid-August are still in the lead position at the box office. Hindustan Times reports:

"All the six movies have been disasters... none have fetched any appreciation from the audience. Its just Daddy Cool that has managed something out of the lot and that too not more than 20 percent," Amit Awasthi, manager (programming and operations) of Spice Cinemas, Noida, told IANS.

In fact, Kaminey and Life Partner, which stars Govinda, Tusshar Kapoor, Prachi Desai, Fardeen Khan, and Genelia D'Souza, are still bringing in business close to 60 percent, he added.

It seems to me that the producer and multiplex standoff was the major reason behind this problem. The two month stand off halted release of many movies. After it was over, the movies started to release and this problem occurred. From this incident, Bollywood producer should be careful not to release too many movie in one week if they are low-profile movies.
