The success of vie “Avatar” in India in the opening day shows that India has a good potential to be a very big market for Hollywood movies in the next few years. The opening weekend in
India grossed Rs 22 crore and it is a record breaking box office figure in India for any Hollywood movie is concerned.
"'Avatar' has had an amazing opening and the audience reactions are fantastic with a very large proportion of them wanting to see it again. Our theatrical partners are delighted to see queues building up outside multiplexes for advance bookings. The movie is being appreciated across all age groups," Vijay Singh said about “Avatar”.
By the way, Vijay Singh is the CEO of Fox Star Studios India. The success of “Avatar” has perhaps come at a good time for
Hollywood movies as the industry suffered a lot from the economic recession throughout the year 2009.
On the other hand, I think that some directors and producers in Bollywood would get a bit worried about this kind of box office performance in
India from a Hollywood movie. Bollywood has been suffering for the last two years as hardly any movie is clicking in the box office.
