Nissan to Produce its First Car in India on May 2010

This is good news for both Nissan and Indian auto industry. Yet, another company is going to manufacture cars in India. Nissan has already set up its manufacturing plant at Chennai and even trial production has taken place. The result is satisfactory and the first car should come out on May 2010. Right now, nearly 1,000 workers work in this plant and by May, this number will be increased to 1,500.

The Oragadam facility, a 50:50 joint venture between Nissan and Renault, will initially manufacture 2 lakh cars and will be scaled up to 4 lakh units by 2012.
"We are even accelerating our India plans," he said, adding the inauguration of the facility will take place in March while the first car roll-out will happen in May."

India has now one of the highest growing auto markets in the world and this is really the best time to produce cars in this country.
