NTR University of Health Sciences is a public university named after N.T Rama Rao, the famous actor of Telugu cinema. It is located in the city of Vijaywada, Andhrapradesh. Previously it was named Andhra Pradesh university of Health Sciences. The university was created under an act of the Andhra Pradesh legislature and was opened in 1986 by the late N.T. Rama Rao, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The university started its function in November 1986 but after the death of its founder, N.T. Rama Rao, the institution was renamed NTR University of Health Sciences since February 1998. The NTR University offers graduate and postgraduate courses, diploma and “super specialty” courses in Modern medicine, graduate and postgraduate degree courses in Dental Surgery, Nursing, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, and Unani; graduate degree courses in Naturopathy, Physiotherapy and Medical Laboratory Technology; and a postgraduate course in M.Sc. Applied Nutrition.
