The University of Jammu was established in 1969 under an act of the State Legislature. Located on the banks of the Tawi Rivers, the university offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs and affiliates and recognizes colleges. Recently, the university set up satellite campuses in Bhaderwah, Kathua and Poonch. In these campuses, it offers various vocational courses. It is the first university in India to receive ISO-9001 certification. The central library of the university has a collection of more than 3,50,000 books and electronic media. It has been renamed as Dhanvantri Library. Its postgraduate department includes Chemistry Department, Physics & Elect. Department, Environmental Sciences Department, Home Science Department, Bio-Technology Department, Computer Science Department, Management Department, Zoology Department, Botany Department, Geology Department, Geography Department, Mathematics Department, Education Department, Law Department, Library Science Department etc.
