Bharat bandh is going to be held on April 27, 2010

Bharat Bandh will be observed on April 27, 2010 all over India. It has been organized by 13 non-UPA parties and non-NDA parties including Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), Samajwadi Party (SP), Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (M), Rashtriya Samajwadi Party (RSP), Biju Janata Dal, Indian National Lok Dal, JD(S), Revolutionary Socialist Party, AIADMK and the Forward Bloc. BJP, on April 26, 2010 said that it is not opposing the “Bharat Band” but would not support it either.


The “Bharat Bandh” has been staged over price rise of daily necessities and high price of petroleum products. The parties criticized the government previously but it received a big boost after the IPL and phone tapping controversy. One India reports:

The representatives of the parties have also held meetings to finalise strategy for a cut motion against the finance bill to force rollback of the hike in prices of petroleum products.

A.B. Bardhan, General Secretary, Communist Party of India told reporters that they had decided to organize a shutdown in the country on April 27, 2010 against price hike.
