IPL Semi Finals 2010: Who Will Play?

It is yet to be finalized the four semi-finalist teams in the IPL 2010 tournament. However, one match is still left to play in the round robin league. Until it is being played tomorrow between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, we cannot mention the semi-finalist teams. However, Mumbai Indians is the only team that has secured their place in the next round. Cricket fans are excitedly waiting to know the other three clubs’ name that will take part in the semi-final round.

I have already stated that Mumbai Indians has become the first team that has secured their place in the semi-final round. They are leading the IPL point table with 20 points from 13 matches. I cannot see any other team who can topple them in the point table. They are 6 points ahead then second placed team, Chennai Super Kings.

Today, Chennai Super Kings won the match against Kings XI Punjab. Their 6 wickets victory with 2 balls spare at hand put Chennai Super Kings in the second position. It was their last match in the group stage. Now, they have got 14 points from 14 matches. Some IPL teams have equal points but because of their net run rate Chennai Super Kings has been placed in the second position. However, they have less possibility to move into the next round if Delhi Daredevils fails to manage a victory against Deccan Chargers.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s possibility to move ahead in the second round has been questioned. Today, they lost their second position and have been placed in the third position. Now, their luck is depending on the match between Delhi Daredevils and Deccan Chargers. If Delhi Daredevils wins today’s match then they will get down in the fourth position. However, Royal Challengers Bangalore will also expect that Mumbai Indians will defeat Kolkata Knight Riders. Otherwise, they have no opportunity to stay in the competition. Royal Challengers Bangalore was the runners up team in IPL 2009. It will be a big upset if they get eliminated early of the competition.

After getting victory against Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders still remains their hope of playing in the semi-final round for the first time. Only win is not enough for Kolkata Knight Riders. They will have to manage a victory with huge run margin or ball difference. Otherwise, they can not make their place among the top four teams.

I cannot predict anything until tomorrow. Let’s see what happens in the end.

Two IPL matches will be played in Mumbai at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy on 21 and 22 April.

  1. Mr.Kamran, Dont u have brains!!! If u canr predict this simple one that who will be through to Semi's probably u need to seriously check ur numerical ability which, i feel, is at rock bottom. Use simple mathematics!!!
IF ONLY KKR wins MI by maintaining the differnence in the RR by over 7( for example KKR's runrate is Monday's game is 7 more than MI runrate, which is practically impossible), then they will beat the NRR of RCB with both teams tieing up at 14. SO the final standings after league matches are over will be as below, irrespective of Monday's game of MI Vs KKR.
    1)MI
    2)DC
    3)CSK
    4)RCB

Semifinal 1 : MI Vs CSK
Semifinal 2 : DC Vs RCB
