Paathshala movie review

Title: Paathshaala

Director: Milind Ukey

Cast:

Shahid Kapoor...... Teacher Rahul Prakash Udyavar

Nana Patekar...... Principal Aditya Sahay

Ayesha Takia Azmi...... Teacher Anjali Mathur

Sushant Singh...... Vijendra Chauhan

Saurabh Shukla...... School Manager- Lallan Sharma

Paathshaala tells the story how education has been turned into a commodity and destroying students. Very often we come across news students were punished unnecessarily by the teachers and school authorities. In this age of competition and rat race, parents always push their kids to excel. They put so much pressure on their kids that they do not even get the time to have fun and enjoy like other kids and this is mentally affecting them. Paathshaala makes a noble effort to show these problems.

The story of the movie revolves around Saraswati Vidya Manndir, located in the outskirts of the Mumbai suburbs. Rahul Prakash Udyavar, an English teacher, joined the school. Rahul has a natural talent for teaching. He can easily build up good relationship with the students. A compassionate teacher, Rahul believes in the true spirit of education and stands against any injustice. Saraswati Vidya Manndir is a reputed educational institution. Thanks to its principal, Aditya Sahay, a dedicated teacher, who devoted his entire life to build up good students. From the very beginning, he feels that there is some kind of problem with the school. Soon he discovers that the manager of the school, Lallan Sharma, forces students to pay extra money in the name of extra-curricular activities and in many cases he inhumanly punishes the students. Rahul unites other teachers and stands against this oppression. Unfortunately, the principal do not support their cause.

Paathshala is made with a very noble intention but the movie did not have a strong script to back the whole thing. In many places the movie looks very unconvincing. The movie has a very good caste. Nana Patekar plays his role very convincingly. Shahid Kapoor did very well playing the role of an English teacher. Ayesha Takia Azmi did a good job. Overall, the movie has a very good caste and good story but is not very well made.
