Varkala Radhakrishnan CPI-M leader passed away

Varkala Radhakrishnan, senior member of CPI-M and former member of Lok Sabha died on April 26, 2001. He died from complication after having an accident last week.

The octogenarian had been hit by a vehicle while having his morning walk and suffered fracture in the ribs which affected the functioning of his lungs. He was undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital for the last few days. His condition became critical at the night of April 25, 2010 and he died at 9 a.m. He left his wife and two daughters and a son.

Radhakrishnan was elected to the Lok Sabha thrice from Chirayinkil constituency. He was also elected to the Kerala Assembly four time sfrom Varkala and served as Speaker of the House from 1987 to 1991 during the reign of the LDF government led by E K Nayanar.

His funeral took place around 9.30 p.m..
