England coach Fabio Capello already made it clear that five players who did not travel with the team to Austria for their club duties in FA Cup final would not be considered for the Mexico match. That means four Chelsea players: John Terry, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Joe Cole- as well as Portsmouth goalkeeper David James would not play any part of the Mexico friendly.

The England coach told the Press Association, "The Chelsea players and David James will not play against Mexico. I needed them to train and stay with us. I also needed to check their physical situation so these five players won't play.''

Capello also confirmed that he would experiment with the squad against Mexico. In fact, a hint of this experiment came through England’s practice sessions in Austria where the coach tried with players playing in different positions during practice. Alongside the five players, Gareth Barry would also miss England’s Sunday fixture as he is yet to get over the ankle injury fully.

Fabio Capello could feature uncapped Michael Dawson and Adam Johnson in any part of the match against Mexico in what would give them a chance to claim their places in the South Africa bound England team.

Considering Barry’s uncertainty over his availability in the world cup finals, Capello might deploy Ledley King or James Milner in the defensive midfielder’s role. Jamie Carragher is almost certain to make his return to international football after 3 years with this game.

Moreover, Steven Gerrard could be given a more creative role in the midfield in the absence of Lampard, while Wayne Rooney could play as a lone striker.

Mexico would also like to use this game to sort out the things of the world cup bound squad. Arsenal striker Carlos Vela said that the experience of facing England at the Wembley would help Mexico in their world cup opener against host South Africa on 11 June.
