Nissan Micra in India: Price and other Information

Famous Japanese automaker, Nissan, has already started the production of Nissan Micra in India. Micra will be Nissan’s first compact car made in India. Nissan Micra was first unveiled at the Geneva Auto show 2010.

The car will compete in the B and B+ segment cars such as, Maruti Swift, Hyundai i10 and Ford Figo, which accounts for 70-75% of the passenger car market in India. The company did not give out any details on price and features of the car.

Nissan Micra is being produced at the Nissan manufacturing plant in Oragadam, Chennai. Initially, 1,900 employees are working at the plant. The company would increase up to 6,000 employees.

Nissan Motor CEO, Kiminobu Tokuyama, in a statement said, “The day that all of us were waiting for has finally arrived and we are delighted with roll out of the first car. We always had a clear strategy for India and this has been clearly reflected in our investments in the first manufacturing plant for the alliance in Chennai. We are now confident that the Indian customers will like our product offerings beginning with the Nissan Micra and this is the right product at the right time.”

Mr. Tokuyama also said that the Chennai plant will initially produce 200,000 units per year. The company is looking forward to sell 80,000 units in 2010.

From May 25, 2010, customers would be able to get a closer look at the Nissan Micra displayed at various Nissan showrooms in India. Sales will start from July.

Interested buyers can pre-order at Nissan showrooms. The booking amount is Rs. 50,000. Very soon, Nissan will start ad campaign for the Micra in different mediums.

Various media reports speculated that the price of the Micra will range between Rs.400,000 and Rs.500,000.

  2. Ritz is a Very good car from Maruti, excellent space, decent interiors. Nice performance, excellent mileage. Gives an SUV type feel in the car, for a small car this is spacious is what I mean..
