St. Joseph’s College is one of the oldest educational institutions in India founded by priests of Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu in 1844. Later in 1883, it was shifted to Tiruchirapalli district. The college was affiliated to Madras University. In 1978, The University of Madras conferred autonomous status to the college. In 1944, the college celebrated its 100th anniversary followed by sesquicentennial in 1995. In 2000, the college also received a Five star status from National Assessment and Accreditation of Council (NAAC). In 2007, it was re-accredited with “A+ Grade.”
