Tamil Nadu means Country of the Tamil’s. Tamil Nadu is one of the 32 states of India and the eleventh largest state by area and the seventh most populous states in India. It is also the fifth largest state to contribute to the GDP and the most urbanized state in India.

Tamil Nadu is situated in the southernmost part of Indian Peninsula. Chennai is the largest city in Tamil Nadu and it is also the capital of the state. Previously, it was known as Madras.

In the north, Tamil Nadu is bound by the Eastern Ghats, the Nilgiri, the Anamalai Hills. It is bound by Palakkad on the west, by the Bay of Bengal in the east, the Gulf of Mannar, the Palk Strait in the south east and by the Indian Ocean in the South.

In India, Tamil Nadu also has the highest number of business enterprises. The state has a rich cultural heritage. It has been the home of the Tamil civilization since 1500 BC. Tamil language has been used in literature for 2500 years. The state is rich in natural resources, several pilgrimage sites and eight UNESCO World Heritage sites.
