The Indian state of Haryana is the historical Kuru region in North India. The name “Haryana” was mentioned in 12th century AD by the apabhramsha writer Vibudh Shridhar.

“Haryana” is a Sanskrit word which means the Abode of God. In Sanskrit, the word, “Hari” refers to Vishnu and “Ayana” means home. However, in Sanskrit, “Harit” means green which is why, Haryana may also refer to the green landscape of the state.

Haryana is bordered by Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to the north. On the west and south, Haryana is bordered by Rajasthan. Chandigarh is the capital of Haryana and Punjab and considered as a union territory. Haryana also surrounds Delhi in the norther, western and southern borders. A large part of Haryana is also included in the National Capital Region.

In the field of education, Haryana made tremendous progress. SCERT Haryana Gurgaon, a conglomeration of State Institute of Education and State Institute of Science, was established in 1979 to develop the condition of the state’s school education.

The Haryana government is working hard to provide education to the poor children of the state. Currently, 32 primary schools, 69 middle schools and 101 high schools were upgraded to middle high and senior secondary respectively in 2004 and 2005.
