Veturi Sundararama Murthy Telugu Lyricist Died at 74

Famous poet and lyricist of Telugu language, Veturi Sundararama Murthy, died at a hospital in Hyderabad on May 22, 2010. The national award winning lyricist was suffering from various health complications and breathed his last at the age of 74.

A partisan of famous Viswanatha Satyanarayana, Veturi penned many famous songs for Telugu movies including Raalipoyye Puvva Neeku Raagalenduke from the movie Matrudevobhava which brought him a national award in best lyrics category.

Born on January 29, 1936, in a Telugu brahmin family, Veturi Sundararama Murthy is also famous for his poems and short stories. He started his career as a journalist and worked in the magazines like Andhra Patrika and Andhra Prabha. Later on, he flourished his potential in writing poetry and lyrics.

He got his major breakthrough in Telugu flim industry through the movie Adavi Ramudu. He wrote songs on various topics and was famous for his romantic songs.

During his illustrious career, Veturi was close to many legendary figures of Telugu film industry including director Dr.K.Viswanath as well as famous music composers K. V. Mahadevan and Ilaiyaraaja.

Veturi Sundararama Murthy hails from Peda Kallepalli, a place located in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. He married Seethamaha Lakshmi and has 3 sons.

The legendary lyricist received many awards during his life time. Besides National Award, he won 8 Nani awards and Filmfare Life Time achievement award.
