Viswanathan Anand is the World Chess Champion 2010

Viswanathan Anand has again become the World Champion of Chess after he defeated Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria. His win in the final match meant that Anand won the 12 match series by 6.5-5.5. The 40 year old grandmaster from India is the greatest chess player from his country and this is the 4th time, he won this prestigious trophy.
It was a tough challenge for the Indian player. Veselin Topalov could take the series to the last game. At one stage, it looked that no one would win but Anand kept his nerve and could win the final match.
In 2007, Anand won the World Chess Championship by edging pass Vladimir Kramnik of Russia. Then, he again successfully defended his title in 2008. He also won FIDE World Chess Champion 2000.
Millions of people in India are happy with the success of one of their own. The parents have expressed their joys to the media. Viswanathan Anand has stated his happiness to a TV Channel this way, "Nice to know I can wake up as World Champion."
This success will help to create more interest for Chess in India. Anand himself has received numerous awards from Indian Government in the last 25 years.
