APSEB was created in 1959 to maintain the power sector efficiently and economically at the same time meeting the growing needs. Over the years, the company failed miserably.
The state government then set up a high level committee in January 1995 to look into the present situation of APSEB and make recommendations for improvement.
Then in 1998 the government of Andhra Pradesh introduced the AP Electricity REFORMS ACT as per the suggestions of the committee. The next year, APGENCO and Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (APTRANSCO) in 1999.
